What is FACS?
Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) is the comprehensive body of skills, research, and knowledge that helps people make informed decisions about their well being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. The field represents many areas, including human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, food science, nutrition, and wellness, textiles and apparel, and consumer issues.
What is FCCLA?
FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA was formerly known as Future Homemakers of America (FHA). FCCLA is one of the largest national student organizations in the United States. It was established in 1945. FCCLA gives you the opportunity to serve your community. This organization focuses on the family. It helps you develop dynamic leadership skills. FCCLA gives you the opportunity for scholarships through our organization and looks great on applications for college or work. You can pick something you love and do something with it! FCCLA helps you break out of your shell and become the best version of yourself. Nebraska has a total of 109 chapters and 3,447 members! In the National standings, we have a growing number of 216,934 members and 7,839 chapters!
FCCLA Mission Statement
To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family & Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
FCCLA Eight Purposes
1.) To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.
2.) To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.
3.) To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.
4.) To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
5.) To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.
6.) To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.
